The Foundation DIY Skateable Sculpture Park is in the River Arts District of Asheville, NC. This grassroots project started in 2009 with some wooden ramps on an abandoned concrete slab of a building destroyed by a flood. Over the years, friends and I have volunteered thousands of hours transforming the landscape of the slab with additions of sculptural concrete skatepark features. We have official permission to use the space and pay for an insurance policy. It’s been a good thing for a lot of people. Building community, teaching trade skills, promoting exercise and friendships are just some of the things that happen here. There is a lot of room left to keep building!
